OYWA State Tournament 2019
2019-03-03OYWA State Tournament 2019
Howland Mat Cats had another amazing year! We wrestled well all year and when it came to post season we unleashed our talents. We were the 2019 Sectional Champions and qualified 12 kids to the District Tournament (Seven 1st place, Three 2nd place, One 3rd, One 4th). Team finshed 3rd out of 37 teams at Districs. Qualifiying a record tying 7 for the OYWA State Tournament.
We had our highest placment ever as a team at the State Tournament placing 6th out of 93 teams. History was also made when Howland Mat Cats recorded our first ever OYWA State Champion!!!
1. Dante Deuly (64) - First trip to the State Tournament for Dante. With only a couple years of wrestling, Dante has blown away all expectations. He may of not got on the podium this trip but look out! This kid will continue to take giant steps on the mat.
2. Deacon Mock (70) - Deek is a regular at the State Tournament and had a great showing. This kids energy is so addictive we are trying to find a way to capture and sell it, haha!! Always wanting to do more in the practice room! Deacon places 4th place and hits the podium strong!
3. Dylan O'Brien (76) - Dylan is one of the hardest workers to step into the wrestling room. His leadership and dedication set the pace for all to follow. Dylan drove through his bracket getting into the State Finals match and placing a hard fought 2nd. Job well done!
4. Tyson Seesholtz (95) - First ever OYWA STATE CHAMPION! Tyson's is the milestone we strive for. Tyson is an amazing kid that we are proud and excited for. The extra is all this kid does. While you are relaxing this kid is outworking you. Congratulations T-Rex, you earned this title!
5. Terrance Belden (105) - This kid has all the talent and began putting it all together when it counted. Terrance is exciting to watch and the sky is the limit!! Strong, hard nosed, and scrappy is what sets him apart from most! Terrance placed an exciting 3rd at the State Tournament.
6. Luke Starkey (110) - Luke has commited himself to a sport that is perfect for him. His ability to learn technique and keep position is second to none. Luke went 2-2 in a very tough bracket. We are wishing Luke all the best in his next chapter and will always be rooting for him.
7. Luke Gabrovsek (120) - Luke had a great year. He advanced to the State Tournament but ran into a few issues. Luke will work hard and keep learning. He has a very bright future in front of him. Keep up the hard work Luke!
